The Economic Awareness Council (EAC)

The Economic Awareness Council (EAC) aims to “prepare students and families for the economic and financial decisions they will make both today and tomorrow,” educating students and families about the basics of saving, budgeting, banking, credit, investing, business, and entrepreneurship, as well as empowering individuals to set and reach their financial goals. Furthermore, the EAC advocates for high-quality, consumer-friendly bank account access for youth and families in low- to moderate-income communities. Now, through their partnership with the GLCU Foundation, providing housing and financial counseling is part of their repertoire of services.

South Suburban PADS (SSPADS)

South Suburban PADS (SSPADS) works to prevent and end homelessness in the south suburbs of Chicago. The organization provides integrated services to enable unhoused individuals and families to access emergency shelter, move back into their own affordable apartments, and achieve better health and economic security. Since its founding in 1990, SSPADS has provided more than 700,000 nights of emergency shelter and over 2 million meals to enable over 20,000 people to overcome homelessness. The emergency shelter impact has grown over 169% since 2019, helping more than 400 people preserve or access affordable housing homes every year.

 Youth Conservation Corps (YCC)

YCC and GLCU joint activity with members & volunteers

Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) believes that every young adult has a pathway to success. As a non-profit organization committed to providing Lake County’s young people with the tools and resources to develop and build skills for life, YCC mentors and empowers young adults through education and training in life skills, career pathways, and environmental stewardship. The GLCU Foundation for Financial Empowerment selected YCC as our Q2 partner because its mission closely aligns with ours. The $2,500 funds will help support continued financial literacy for the youth in our communities of Waukegan, North Chicago, and Zion.
